History
Ancestral Puebloans (formerly known as Anasazi) lived in the area of Zion Park
from about 2000 years ago. Paiutes live here from about 800 years ago to present.
The first Mormon pioneers arrived in this area in 1860s.
The park was established in 1909 as Mukuntuweap National Monument,
and expanded in 1919 as Zion National Park.
The Kolob Canyons section was added to the park in 1937.
